The Importance of Maintaining a Healthy Diet
Eating well is important for everyone, but for people with hemophilia, there are even more reasons to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- Healthy eating and exercise will help to maintain a healthy weight. People with hemophilia who are overweight put extra stress on their joints, which can make them vulnerable to damage.
- Also, changes in weight can impact a treatment regimen for those patients on factor replacement therapy, so it is important to watch for weight gain (or loss) and keep your doctor informed of any changes.
To help incorporate physical activity into your child's life, have them choose one activity per season like swimming lessons or dance lessons. Organized activities are a great way to provide regular exercise each week - and they learn something new at the same time!
